About OSA

OSA was formed in 2003 to raise funds to expand and improve our local parks. OSA is modeled after successful conservancies, such as Prospect Park Alliance, that supplemented city efforts to transform neglected, derelict spaces into cherished oases for all to enjoy. In 2008, OSA signed a formal operating partnership agreement with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, and hired full time staff.

We cover all parks in Community Board 1, rather than any one park. In doing so, less advantaged areas of our community can be subsidized by funds from other parts of our district.

OSA embraces numerous local parks advocates through OSA's Community Committee. OSA's Community Committee garners local consensus on parks issues and guides project priorities.

Our Executive Director is also the Administrator of North Brooklyn Parks for the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. This dual role gives our community direct representation within the city agency responsible for the management, maintenance and development of our neighborhood parks.

Board members are required to contribute financially, and provide service on Board Committees. Annual Board member contributions make full time staffing possible, and demonstrate to traditional funding sources that OSA has a dependable cash flow, and local support. OSA's Board includes our local elected officials in an advisory capacity.

By raising funds and joining our parks advocates, community groups, Community Board 1, elected officials, and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, together we create the green space our neighborhood needs.
